I am a member of RoseWind Cohousing in Port Townsend WA. We have about 9.5 Ac in the city limits of Port Townsend, a small town on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state. We own the land and are in the process of putting in the infrastructure - roads, utilities, drainage etc. We hope to be able to start construction on the first units sometime this summer. We have divided our land into 19 5,000 sq. ft lots and a large lot approved for up to 7 smaller cluster units. This will leave about half of the land as common. We have zoning approval for the common house and a commercial building. Because of the spreadout and somewhat independent nature of the residence units, we are very concerned about having a usable common house for meals, meetings, social functions and as a community focus, as soon as possible. As part of the planning process for the common house design and construction we are gathering information from others who may have a common house, are in the process of designing or building one. Any responses to the following questionnaire will be gratefully appreciated.
