Ray Gasser, EcoVillage at Ithaca, talked about the various aspects of office space. - - - - - - - - - - - Providing facilities and resources for people to make their living on site, I feel is a a key to making cohousing lifestyle sustainable, e.g., minimize commuting, maximizing cooperation and resource sharing among the residents. Does your common house also include day care so that people wanting to office there can have child care available? One Boulder coho group was considering a site plan that would have offices and "light" retail on the lower level with housing up and above. This would allow even more diverse businesses on site than offices only. (Haven't heard if this plan has moved past the proposal stage.) As a computer consultant, I'm sure you've thought about having ample wiring for having a network among the offices to provide for things like shared fax, printers, email, How about also running extra pairs (assuming 10BaseT twisted pair wiring) to some of the homes to where folks had offices in their units could also communicate/share. Are the offices in the CH to be cubicles or have other flexibility for increasing/decreasing the number and size of the offices beyond the 2-3 you mentioned? What with the big trend for home offices, it will likely happen that people who don't need an office now will soon. =M=
