In response to Bill Dean: At the outset, we all signed a participation agreement that said we agreet to rent or sell our units only to persons who would agree to participate. Eventually we had to take all references to cohousing out of our filings with the Dept of Real Estate and take out the requirement of signing of the participation agreement, in order to get our individual mortgages. However, feel quite confident that anyone who did not really want to be an active participant would want to buy in here. When we still had units for sale, and then when we had one preowned unit for sale, we promoted them as cohousing and all but insisted that the prospective buyer attend a couple of common meals and a monthly community meeting, as well as encouraging them to chat with any or all of us before deciding to buy in. We believe that if what is here is too much togetherness or is in any way not comfortable for a prospective owner, they will select themselves out without difficulty. Joani
