Greetings, We are a group of people that have been meeting for a little more than a year now planning to create a cohousing community in the Tallahassee, Florida area. We are currently deep in the discussion of ownership possibilities and agree that there is no need to "reinvent the wheel" when many others have been in similar situations. Surely others have come up with many creative solutions to the questions of land and home ownership while respecting and honoring the natural land, acknowledging the varying income levels of those interested in living in community, and having the desire to "own" homes without participating in property speculation. To that end, would you please consider taking the time to answer the questions below regarding ownership. Any other words of wisdom you would like to share regarding creating (and maintaining) community are also very welcome. Copies of any documents regarding ownership, membership, and legal concerns that you are willing to share with us would be greatly appreciated. For example: articles and bylaws, membership agreements, ownership contracts, etc. If it would be better to send hard copies by snail mail please let us know and we'll gladly send you a SASE and money for copying. Thank you in advance for your time and effort and much goodwill to you for the success of your community. How is the land owned in the community? i.e. communally, individually, in trust, etc. ....the community buildings? .......the individual/family "homes" or "units"? How was the financing obtained for the initial purchase of land [or land and existing building(s)? How was financing obtained for development of the common buildings of the community? ......the household units? What is the membership fee and how is it determined? Does every member pay the same amount for membership fees? ....for their share of ownership in the common facilities? .....for their household unit? Send hard copies to: Send e-mail to: Patience Gaia-Smith Glenn Sharron 808 N.
