Regarding choosing colours for the exterior of new cohousing homes... I don't mean to sound naive (or snotty), but why on earth can't everyone just pick their own colour for their own unit? Ever look at "old" neighbourhoods (i.e.. anything built pre-1970)? Variety makes walking down the street delightful. And the odd thing is that by and large, people are pretty reasonable with what they do to the outside of their homes. It is quite unusual to see a purple or pink house. And even when I do, it elicits a smile! I realize that some codes and covenants (I think that's what they're called) restrict colours and I would encourage groups to rebel against such ridiculous demands. Donna Spreitzer Former N Streeter - where we trusted each other enough not to feel we needed to have a say in what colour our neighbours chose to paint their houses; and currently living in a 1919 home, surrounded by other similar semi-detached homes, which all have developed a bit of character (and colour) over the years since there are no rules about colours or decorations. I say, the more colour the better. The house next door, inhabited by a 3 generation Estonian family, has purple trim and stairs! Ya gotta love it!
