Perhaps the analogies between commercial laundromats and common house laundries are as invalid as those between cohousing dinners and restaurant cooking. The commonhouse laundries would be much smaller and if the noise were offensive, people wouldn't be doing laundry during meals, meetings, etc. With sound absorbing materials, the washers would also much less noisy.
