Dear List,
Tierra Nueva Cohousing (central CA coast) is doing our final design selection
for our workshop/art & craft studio. We have three designs that have emerged
over the long design and development phase of our project, and now that we are
mostly all moved in, we're looking to finalizing the design and start building
it ourselves. In the course of the years the complexion of our group has
changed so we are "re-visioning" our needs and incorporating them into the
final design. I have a few questions for the list:

Of the communities in residence how many of you out there have a common
workshop or craft shop on site?

What activities have you incorporated into your shop(s)?

Of those groups who are still in the design and development stage, what uses
does your workshop design incorporate?

For those with a workshop already hos well is it used? (well used by a
majority of households, occasionally used by most, used regularly by only a
small group, etc.)

What design feature are you the most happy with?

What design feature are you the most disappointed with?

Are there individuals who use the workshop for professional or commercial
activities?
Is there any compensation given back to the community for this use?

Have you included other features such as bicycle storage or personal storage
units into your workshop?

Have any of you built your own shop? Any pitfalls? Any advantages?

We are considering a straw bale structure, using recycled or salvaged building
materials. Any advice?

Do any of you have photos or drawings you would be willing to send me?

Thanks in advance,
Patty Mara Gourley
