Hi all - The Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) is publicizing an example in Dallas of new homes, called Vistas, that incorporate advanced building technologies and are also affordable. The homes use structural insulated panels, fiber-cement siding, ground source heat pumps, tankless water heaters, and pre-finished drywall corners. Lenders incorporate the lower running costs of the homes into their mortgage calculations, allowing homebuyers larger mortgages. The techniques used are also linked to PATHs goal of improving the environmental performance of housing. For more info, contact Steve Brown, President, Carl Franklin Homes, Suite 300, 16300 Addison Road, TX 75001, 216-421-5800, http://www.carlfranklinhomes.com. Or PATH at www.huduser.org/research/path.html. I know PATH is involved with the cohousing neighborhood going up in Takoma Park, MD, and they've featured others in their publications.
