I don't think "community" is the word they react to. My original message included three slogans that I thought would involve old stereotypes -- something like every day together, closer and closer, etc. One of the wonderful things about cohousing is that everyone does not have to be in love with everyone else or lay down in front of a speeding train for anyone. In many communities, that is required. In the 1960s and 1970s, it was very much expected and became synonymous with "commune." A community is not a commune so using words that are particular to communes is not a good idea. People will not stay around long enough to be "re-educated."
