At Cambridge Cohousing, in the most expensive area in the country (except
Hawaii), our meals run between $3 and $4 each.  We divide the cost of the
meal between the number of people attending (sign-up a couple of days ahead)
and people estimate the amount their child will eat and may sign up for a
half share.   Meals usually include a chicken/fish/or meat entree (with tofu
or other vegetarian alternative) or something like lasagna, plus vegetables,
a starch (potatoes, rice, pasta, couscous), bread and butter, salad and
dessert (may be cake n ice-cream, fruit salad, fruit and cookies, pies,
depending on the cooks' ambition).  If the dish is "adult" there will also be
a child-friendly dish such as Annie's MacnCheeze and we always have PB&J
available.   Sometimes we have a totally vegetarian entree and sometimes the
cooks will just make a hearty soup - Portuguese fish soup, or posole, or
lentil-barley or some such, and serve it with bread and salad.  People
generally try to buy organic produce and stuff but we are not adament about
it.  We always have iced water on the tables and brewed decaff coffee
available as well as teas of various kinds.   Anyone who wants to drink
something different brings it to the meal.

Weekend brunches are always popular and in addition to the usual breakfast
buffet stuff some cooks have got quite ambitious with waffles, individual
omlettes, french toast and such.

Once a week on Monday we have a "pizza-potluck" meal.  People either pay $4
each and pizza is ordered in or come with a potluck dish for 8.  Again, you
sign up by Monday morning.   Since this is the most popular meal with the
kids we have group birthday cakes on that day, for everyone whose birthday
falls that week!
