Kids' food at Common House Meals

The Lurker is awake!

Picky eaters. When I was a kid, and even as a grown-up, two things really worked to get rid of pickiness and make healthy food (veggies!) tastye better. that is growing them and cooking them. If I grow something, it tastes good. If my daughter "helps" grow it, she will eat it. She has helped by planting seeds, watering and bringing squishy fistfulls of worms to the plants. It doesn't have to be real practical help, just something to make a little pride. Once she likes the ones she grows or picks, she will try boughten ones of the same kind. Maybe its because they are familiar.

Cooking also helps. She is proud if she helps, and I guess pride is a good flavor.

I always hated beets until I grew some. She hated brussels sprouts. (But they DO taste better fresh.)

Getting the kids to help in the garden, even if it's just puttering, seems like the first step to get them to eat more veggies and ones that are new. Cooking them or cutting them up, especially if everybody says good job makes her like them too. Will this work with other food.

Probably a garden where she or they can decide what to grow would help a lot.

Thanks. FG
