Renting in a situation where your rents do not threaten to throw you out of
your home is a tremendously freeing state. But when I lived in Manhattan,
the rent increases are so great that I lived in fear that I would lose my
home with the next lease, and then lose my neighborhood and then lose my
town.
But what if you also 'owned' what you were renting? You would have the power to control what you were paying. Since it was not built for profit the mortgage would be lower if you had to borrow to build it and so on. This is the sort of model I am looking at for Oxford - co-operative co-housing.

Is that maybe the best of both worlds?
