Re: Trash Pick-up in Manzanita Village of Prescott

The city of Prescott required that we install a concrete pad and a
enclosure to accommodate what the city thought was the right size for a
dumpster for a village which will eventually be 36 units. The dumpster
enclosure is on the fringe of our property for easy pick-up twice a week
without having the heavy truck enter the residential portiion of the
village.

We soon discovered that (because we diligently recycle and do composting)
a dumpster half the size of the original one would be more than adequate.
By cutting down the dumpster size (now 4 feet by 6 feet and about 5 feet
tall.) and taking advantage of cost saving for the dumpster vs. individual
ugly green containers, each homeowner saves a major portion of the $12 per
month charged for individual pick-up. The extra space in the enclosure
provides space to house the recycling bins which are rolled out once a week
for pick-up. For residents at some distance from the dumpster, the Village
utility cart (to be purchased soon) will be an option for transporting
trash and recycling to the central location.

We rarely have problems with strangers using our facility. Occasionally a
neighbor will ask if it is OK to add things generated by a move-in or
move-out, and we try to be good neighbors.
