Becky (and everyone else):

Thanks for your responses. We at Mosaic Commons were taken by surprise by this development. We thought that we had a legal maneuver up our sleeves that would have circumvented the town meeting. It didn't work, so we found ourselves in front of the town meeting with a day's notice. We lost the vote last night and will very likely have to find another property to build our community on.

Just to be clear. Our group has had a group membership in The Cohousing Network for years. A lot of us subscribe and contribute to this list. What we tried to do yesterday was flush out every last person in Stow who supports cohousing. There were indeed many such who showed up, but we still lost the vote by a huge majority.

Kim, while it is not a local group, Raines reminds me that The Cohousing Network may be the support system in place that you are looking for. The information they're gathering for the directory may be helpful in the future to communities like yours in the future. Also, they put out the cohousing magazine. I know of at least one other community that has had a similar experience. For this situation, you really didn't give us much lead time. But if you keep asking, these communities might be very helpful resources. I consider this listserv a VERY important support system for many aspects of cohousing.

Do let us know how things went.

[snip] We are trying to drum up support any way we know how. If you know anyone who supports cohousing and can vote (a Stow resident) to support us tonight please ask them to do so.

PS Is there a support system like this in place that I do not know about?
