Re: Hiring community members

We have one carpenter and one building contractor in our community. They are hired A LOT by community members, and sometimes people hire others altogether. I think it works well. Usually one is picked over the other because of the nature or size of the work, or because someone knows one of them better than the other. Sometimes they are not hired because they are too busy, or someone wants to hire outside because they are worried about conflict. I know of no conflict, only gratitude for their availability. Laura

Greetings from Great Oak Cohousing in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where a first
wave of households are in the process of moving in. Exciting times!
We are wondering if folks in other communities would like to share their
experiences with cases in which individual households hire other community
members (we have two who are professional carpenters) to do work in their
homes. Are there any advantages or pitfalls we should be aware of?
Thank you,

Amy Harris
