Hi Bambi, When I first joined our cohousing community and was hearing people talk about consensus, one of the stories I heard was about a pond. A couple wanted a pond in their backyard and they also did not want a fence. Their perspective was that this was private property and kids shouldn't be in their yard and this was therefore not a community issue. Others disagreed. The solution they finally came up with was that the couple would have the pond but they would also install a grate about 1 inch or less from the top of the pond. The openings in the grate were large enough for the fish to swim through, but small enough so that a small child would not fall through. I don't know the details, but I did think it was a rather ingenious solution to the problem.
