What IS the difference between Intentional Community and Cohousing? Is there a different name for communities that also work together? Are there other
community types that are similar or often get confused with cohousing?

Cohousing is one form of intentional community which is usually based on forms of architectural design that foster (or are believed to foster) community and home ownership on the part of most of the residents. Ownership is part of the definition (usually, but not always) because control over the end product, requires ownership.

There are many forms of intentional community from families (didn't think of that one did you! Think Kennedy Compound!) to communities like Twin Oaks where people work and live together. There are group houses where people live together with the intention of living together for years, not just temporarily for economic convenience. Some share income, some don't. Some are interested in social and political reform; others aren't. Some are ecovillages; others aren't.

I'm not aware of a list of names for these communities but a list of definitions would be nice. Perhaps someone else knows of one.
