To expand on this topic: I recall reading recently that there are now much, much safer power tools available that can, amazingly, stop almost instantly if they sense cutting something like a finger--anything other than wood, plastic, or steel. I remember that these tools cost rougly $100 more each, but they would certainly be worth it, in my opinion, since even highly experienced adults can make a mistake.
