We are looking for an acoustic consultant to analyze some sound transfer issues and recommend remediation. Anyone else have experience with this or
recommendations of a professional we might use.

We paid $1,000 to a guy with a lot of machines who came out and measured all our sound problems in our great room and reduced them to measurements of various kinds. It was a very official sounding document but really a waste of time.

The person who actually did our acoustical work does installations for musicians and theaters. He could tell more from walking around and knocking on walls and whistling than he could tell from the report.

I would skip the consultant and to directly to a person who designs and installs acoustical stuff. It is hard because most acoustical work is done by architects at the time of construction and few people want to do small jobs. I would start by calling music studios and concert halls for recommendations. One of our members has a lot of musical contacts and found the person that "everyone swears by."
