So, show us examples of inexpensive cohousing

I have been to quite a few community gatherings in my day, met lots and
lots of people with all kinds of notions. It is easy to find
intellectualized conversations about how to do cohousing or community. Lots
of people talk about it. Few actually have the courage and stamina to go do
it. I'd love to see people actually creating trailer park conversation
cohousing, or perhaps a central house on grid with satelliete hand built cob
homes off the grid as part of cohousing. I'd love to see a 20 unit
cohousing community come in at under $500,000, perhaps entirely non-bank
financed. But if these things exist in the world of cohousing, which is
based on private ownership of homes, I have missed it. So I hope somebody
will show us the way and actually do such things someday.

At Sharingwood we built our own commonhouse with community labor, and have
an off grid house and a cob house amid 25 custom homes. Plus a 25 acre land
trust. So we have some small lessons we can share. Maybe someday those
lessons can blossom into a very different type of community, where no one
has a mortgage, all the homes are hand built, and the cost of life is low
but the quality is high. I'd love to hear about such places.
