In Madison, Wisconsin, both Village Cohousing and soon-to-fly Arboretum Cohousing are urban infill, built on small parcels (both purchased from hospitals) in an older (~1930's) residential neighborhood about 12 blocks from the State Capitol building. Both also mix new construction and preservation of existing housing. When Arboretum is finished, they will be located just 5 blocks apart -- tripling the Potluck Power of the neighborhood!
