In east Denver we are retrofitting 19 units built in the 40's. They surround i/2 a city block with a big space in the middle. The units will sell, as is, for from $110,000 to $170,000--which is called affordable today. Our web site is mayfairvillage.org. We welcome all inquiries. Joyce

Hi,
I would like to add that our project, Caer Coburn, would be a great
possibility.

We are in SE VT and our 100-125 parcel is amidst 800+ acres, most of
which is in conservation.

Our membership fees are reasonable and includes an improved house lot
and the additional acreage for the community. Each household is
responsible for building their own house, so that the cost will be
determined by the members.

Our site includes woods, wetlands, a waterfall, an agricultural field of
5 acres, and a brook, as well as river frontage.

We are planning a community garden and a possible orchard, and we might
have a community barn. We are open to suggestions from the members as we
are still in the initial stages of creating the community.

Our town, Rockingham, has undergone a renaissance with a number of fine
resteraunts (also family resteraunts and a period diner), cafes, art
galleries, book stores, and antique shops. A number of the buildings in
Bellows Falls have been restored, including our movie theatre which has
a large screen, Dolby Digital Surround Sound, and admission process of
$4.00- the concession stand process are pretty inexpensive as well.
During the season, we also have a farmers' market and there are a number
of farm stands in the area too.

Our website: http://www.caercoburn.org has information about the project
including pictures of the property, members' bios, Vision and Values
statement, membership levels and rules, costs (including the payment
plan for membership), the option agreement with the land owner, and
links to find out about the area.

i would also be willing to answer any questions.

have a great weekend!

Who can tell me abt. affordable cohousing in a nonpolluted area for
those who wish to live simply?

I think we at Delaware Street Commons in Lawrence KS come pretty close to
affordable cohousing with a commitment to live simply.

Because we are in the middle of the country, our home prices are quite a bit lower than any of the prices I've seen from other communities. Our prices range from $140,000 to $225,000. If that isn't affordable enough,
we are partnering with a local non-profit housing group that will be
building units like ours very close to our property. These homes will be part of a land trust that will allow them to be affordable over a number of owners. I'm not sure of the prices for those homes, but I'm sure they
will be less than ours.

Delaware Street Commons is also dedicated to simple living. We are
located within in walking distance of downtown. A bus comes within a
block of our homes. The larger neighborhood is working on a plans for a
rails to trails project that will enhance bike riding.

In downtown there is a weekly farmers market, access to a community
supported agriculture drop off center, and most basic needs. There is
also a lovely library and outdoor aquatic center for recreation.

Lawrence is home to the University of Kansas. As a university town, it has many intellectual and cultural events. There is much interest within the
larger community to enhance living sustainably.

On our site, we will have a community garden.

Please check out our website at http://www.delaware-street.com and look up
Lawrence Kansas and the University of Kansas on your web browser.

We think we have heaven on earth -- being affordable, intellectual and
creative, and sustainable (without lots of urban polution).

Thanks,

Vicki Penner
