Another ruse that people have used here is to say they are looking for Kathy or Ann or some other common name, but are not sure how to spell her last name.
Of course then the person they are speaking to offers names and tries to help. They get a lot of information that way, and come back if they don't get access that day.
When the intruder says "Oh yes. It is Kathy Matthews. I was leaving out the second t." it is entirely likely that the responder will say "Go on up, it's unit ***." The intruder is then behind the security doors.
This is an important one to watch out for in cohousing where everyone tries to be helpful to guests. And there are a lot of guests.
