For those whose policy doesn't prohibit cats roaming at large, I
recommend asking that cats wear a bib when outside. One study shows a
significant decrease in predation by cats wearing them. When I
visited FrogSong in Cotati, Calif, one of my guides was a lovely
calico wearing such a bib. Now my old guy, who refused to become an
indoor cat, wears one. No problem with tolerating it. Just Google on
"cat bibs" and choose the second listing (i.e., avoid bibs decorated
with kitty cats).
