Hi all,

There are two wonderful, LOW COST opportunities for you to engage more
deeply with the Cohousing world this Saturday - a day-long conference
in the Mid-Atlantic and another fine Cohousing Bus Tour on the left
coast near San Francisco.

Perhaps you are ready to take the next step beyond reading the
Cohousing Listserve conversations? Consider taking a baby step forward
in your journey toward a more fulfilling life in cohousing by
attending either of these inexpensive, high-value events.

Tickets are still available for both. You can walk-up to the
University of Maryland event on Saturday. You cannot "walk-up" to a
bus tour, but there may be seats available if you act fast. Neil
Planchon, the Coho/US Tours Director just told me that he had to
change to a larger bus because the Bay Area Bus Tour has grown beyond
the old bus' 32 seat capacity.

(1) Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference: Growing Smart Communities - a
one-day conference!

Co-sponsored by Mid-Atlantic Cohousing and the University of Maryland
School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, this one-day
conference at the University of Maryland will let you rub shoulders,
elbows and toes with the people who have created, are creating or
helping others to create their cohousing community. This is YOUR local
conference for those of you who are building cohousing, living in
cohousing, interested in the idea, or who are professionals in the

Presenters include Zev Paiss (Keynote Speaker), Neshama Abraham, John
Buck, CT Butler, Elana Kann (developer), Dene Peterson, Laird Schaub,
Don Tucker (developer), Sharon Villines and Jack Wilbern

(personal note: I know several of these fine folk and you will really
enjoy getting to know and learn from them)

Registration doors will open at 8 a.m. (Eastern Time) on Saturday, March 20th.

General Admission (walk-in) - No Lunch: $60.00
MAC/UMD/USGBC/GBI Members - No Lunch: $50.00

The registration fee includes all workshops and presentations, morning
coffee, tea, bagels, afternoon snacks, and the wine, beer, and cheese
reception (cash bar.)

(2) SF Bay Area (East Bay) Cohousing Bus Tour - a day-long tour of 6 communities

Presented by the Cohousing Association of the United States as one of
its growing number of regional bus tours, you will enjoy a very
special tour (a "traveling workshop") of some of the San Francisco Bay
Area's cohousing communities. The Bay Area is vibrant with Cohousing
and home to many unique communities

As you travel between each location on a comfortable bus, our
Cohousing resident guide(s) will give participants a chance to
introduce themselves, share general information about cohousing,
answer questions, provide fact sheets and site plans, and prepare you
for your ~40-minute visit to each community. At each stop, a community
host will guide your group through his or her neighborhood and answer
questions. We look forward to having you join us for a day full of
learning, community building and fun. On this tour you will visit
these six communities:

   1. Doyle Street (Emeryville, Alameda County)
   2. Berkeley Cohousing (Berkeley, Alameda County)
   3. Temescal Commons (Temescal District, Oakland, Alameda County)
   4. Pleasant Hill Cohousing (Pleasant Hill, Contra Costa County)
   5. Temescal Creek (Temescal District, Oakland, Alameda County)
   6. Swan's Market Cohousing (Old Oakland, Downtown Oakland, Alameda County)

(personal note: I've been to all six of these and each community has a
unique story that you'll find inspiring and really interesting).

This tour will be co-led by two knowledgeable cohousing residents,
both local. We will eat lunch at Pleasant Hill Cohousing, one of our
host communities. This tour will start and end at Swan's Market
Cohousing - which is located near 12th Street BART and several parking
lots. Specific location details will be included in your registration
comfirmation email.

NOTE: If you would like a $10 vegetarian box lunch, which you will pay
for on tour day, please email neil [at] and he will add you
to his lunch list, otherwise please bring your own lunch.
