A factoid I didn't know:

A term that is often confused with workshops is the "charette." This is a French word that derives from the behavior of architecture students in Paris who waited until the last minute to finish assignments. As the cart (charette) passed by to pick up their work, they would jump on to continue finishing. Today, the term charette refers to a group of people doing a lot of work very
quickly.

From an urban planning site.
