A Unique Opportunity for People 55+ to Live in an Innovative, Intentional Community! Do you value your independence but like the idea of living along side neighbors who actively support one another? Are you comfortable being around people of all ages, including families who have been through tough times? Are you willing to commit to sharing your time and talents to support your neighbors, just as they’ll be supporting you? Have you been looking for a community but haven’t found the right fit yet? Consider GENESIS, a brand new intentional community scheduled to open around November 1st in northwest Washington, DC. http://www.genesisdc.org Genesis follows the Generations of Hope housing and community model popularized by Hope Meadows in Illinois. http://www.generationsofhope.org http://www.npr.org/2015/08/04/429219678/at-hope-meadows-in-illinois-older-adults-help-families-care-for-foster-children Genesis is a small intergenerational community consisting of 27 rental apartments that will be home to seniors, families transitioning from foster care, other families and single folks. While this is an intergenerational community … the units available now are targeted for folks 55+. Similar to cohousing in many ways, Genesis neighbors commit to supporting each other and the community through contributing a set number of hours each quarter. For example, seniors can help young families with child care, while younger residents can assist seniors with trips to the doctor or grocery store. It differs from cohousing in that it is a completely rental community, it is not completely self managed and it will have on-site professionals who will guide the community. Currently available: Two 3-bedroom apartments renting for $1980 per month o One of these does not require a resident of age 55 + (all other available units do, see below). One 2-bedroom apartment renting for $1590 per month Two 1-bedroom apartments renting for $1200 per month Households must meet the following criteria. 1. Have a household income as shown in below — these are the guidelines for people w/ household incomes 51-80% of median income in DC: ———————————————— 1 person household $37,450-47,950 2 person household $42,800-54,800 3 person household $48,150-61,650 4 person household $53,500-68,500 5 person household $57,800-74,000 6 person household $62,100-75,500 ———————————————— 2. HAVE AT LEAST ONE MEMBER WHO IS 55+ (except one of the three bedroom units does not require someone age 55, see above). 3. Commit to supporting each other and the community through a set number of hours each quarter.
