Marcia, I'm working with a group in Iowa City, Iowa to get a cohousing development done here. One of our goals since the beginning has been economic diversity. Towards that end we have partnered with our local Housing Trust Fund of Johnson County. We have also applied for a number of other grants and loans, some successfully, some not. The most fruitful for us has been the housing trust fund. I would encourage you to look for a local or regional HTF. I work for an affordable housing developer, our experience has been that the trust fund money is more flexible in it's use, less competitive, easier to apply for an and less onerous in terms of compliance. Good luck!
