One thing that was not mentioned that needs to be considered is the amount of 
detergent each type of washer uses.  The front loading machine is much more 
efficient in the use of detergent.  I use this type of machine at the laundry 
all this time.  You use perhaps a fifth of the detergent you would use in a top 
loader.
