Hey Alan! I didn't quite mean virtual community. I think that's a very well
trodden area already (e.g. Facebook) and virtual community doesn't seem to
make people very happy. It's certainly not a panacea for the social
isolation that besets us.

I was more talking about using tech to organize the mundane details of
in-the-flesh community life so folks have more time for doing the real work
of building community. That's what Gather is all about.

I was just thinking aloud about how that might work out in a retrofit
situation. There would be a lot of similarities—meal planning, work
planning, space reservation, decision making, calendaring, group
communications, etc. (Not all of these are supported by Gather yet, but
working on it!)
