Yes: having email arrive makes it very likely I will read it. Much, much less likely to actively go to a Site. This eList has been, and continues to be enormously valuable. If people abandon Cohousing-L for a spiffier platform I will be sorry to lose it, because I don't think I'll visit that other site very frequently.
