Call for Articles We are pleased to announce that the Summer 2001 issue of Communities Magazine will focus on Appropriate Technology In Community. We are currently soliciting articles on the following themes: + Renewable energy systems and appropriate technology in community, especially community-scale systems + Technology's place in our lives - our relationship to and alienation from or connection to technology + The affects of technology choices on the social fabric of community and vice versa. + Sustainable technology options for communities + Community based education programs in appropriate technology + Research and development of appropriate technology in community + A look to the future of technologies soon to affect our lives in communities We are especially interested in actual EXPERIENCE with systems - mistakes made - what was learned. What are the successes and disappointments. What would you do differently next time. How much did it cost? What are your dreams and plans from here. What specific systems have you developed or modified from the original designs that would be worth sharing with others? We also want to focus on the HUMAN INTERFACE AND SOCIAL IMPLICATIONS of technology use in community We are interested in how the technology was chosen, who made the decisions around the options and the selection of the technology? How has the original expectations been met or not met. How has the technology changed your community's social fabric. How do your community's values affect the technology you use? The article deadline is Friday, January 12th, 2000. If you are interested in writing for this issue, please contact the guest editor, Jeff Clearwater.
