I'm the Heartwood Commons Tulsa member who brought this up. I want to explain my perspective. To me, discounted cable TV service to individual homes does nothing to build or support community. The opposite, in fact. The other things that communities often charge for - laundry equipment and guest rooms - are different. I may not use them often or ever, but they are there and available if I need them and they promote the use of the common house and interaction with neighbors. TV in the homes is different. If I suddenly decide I want to watch a sporting event, I can't walk into my neighbor's house and turn on the TV, even though I am subsidizing his cable bill. I have to go buy my own TV - an expense and use of space that I'd rather not incur. Or I can go to the common house and watch it there, and that's great. I'm all for the community paying that expense. I seem to be the only person in the community who feels this way, so I'm going to let it drop. Should we offer the option to opt-out of paying for cable TV, with the cost spread among the HOA dues for the remaining households? If so, how do you deal with it?
