The impacts are already being felt by millions of people and communities around the world -- but the burden weighs most heavily on the poor and marginalized in developing countries. That’s why 195 countries came together to create the Green Climate Fund under the United Nations Climate Convention: to help the poor in developing countries cope with the devastating impacts of climate change. *But the Green Climate Fund is under threat. Help us ensure that the GCF money actually goes to help the poor, not to line the pockets of polluters. <http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=BIgoVpWalHe8vRxfmLq5K4GJxNViSYLE>* The GCF was established in part to help developing countries transition from ‘business as usual’ polluting energy sources to clean energy. But dirty energy interests are trying to capture GCF funds for themselves. They want the GCF to fund false solutions like “clean” coal, natural gas fracking, destructive dams or even nuclear power. *Please stand with us and send a message to the Treasury Department telling it to keep the Green Climate Fund clean. <http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=2IOiXl%2F42hhWNyhCtFkU%2B4GJxNViSYLE>* Common sense says that financing harmful energy, such as fossil fuels, through the Green Climate Fund is unacceptable. It’s fundamentally at odds with the mandate of the Green Climate Fund, and it’s totally inconsistent with what climate scientists say we need to do if we’re to avoid runaway climate change. As our partners in Africa explained: *The development model pushing large-scale infrastructure and power projects rarely, if ever, alleviates poverty. Instead, such projects exacerbate inequality and conflict, devastate the environment, and frequently involve human rights violations (i.e. the well-documented “resource curse”). **These projects do not help us at home, but rather are for export and to line the pockets of multinational corporations and local elites.* We can’t let this happen to the Green Climate Fund. *Contact the Treasury Department now to ensure that the GCF clearly excludes dirty and destructive energy projects. <http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=RY3ZSq7yZKGBE7Soig%2F5VoGJxNViSYLE> * *In solidarity, Karen Orenstein, Senior international policy analyst, Friends of the Earth* Contact us Friends of the Earth U.S. Washington DC Berkeley CA 1-877-843-8687<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=SpMRPYcxRFNOo8OHOR2mioGJxNViSYLE> Contact us » <http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=o1UR2XLOiRnOrj4xZ4J0YYGJxNViSYLE> Email preferences Click here to unsubscribe »<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=yfhoYJaQzmJutFGHTxlfeoGJxNViSYLE> View email in web browser »<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=K91pesyfRzvi6fgfdbqF0IGJxNViSYLE> Learn more www.foe.org/news »<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=q6nzYrhc%2FFfLFH8UuG8O6IGJxNViSYLE> www.foe.org/about-us »<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=DwpocZ5jhyMu98Z978hTdoGJxNViSYLE> <http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=JlDtmc3Bwo1ss2X9mng%2FdoGJxNViSYLE> [image: Follow Friends of the Earth on Facebook]<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=wnf5KC8HD2HfQ1CvQi%2FubIGJxNViSYLE> [image: Follow Friends of the Earth on Twitter]<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=neWrmjLvnbH8Cl7cKnxldoGJxNViSYLE> [image: View photos from Friends of the Earth on Flickr]<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=GUsY4kTV9kdS0mo19y7P8YGJxNViSYLE> [image: empowered by Salsa] <http://www.salsalabs.com/?email>
