Subject: Call MN Senators 6.09

On Thursday, June 9 the Senate Judiciary Committee is holding a hearing
about extending the term of the current head of the FBI, Robert Mueller.

Senators Klobuchar and Franken represent 9 of the 23 activists who were
raided and subpoenaed by the Grand Jury. Please call Senators Klobuchar
and Franken and ask them to:

1) Vote against the extension of Mueller's term as FBI head and

2) Demand answers from Mueller about the FBI's violation of civil
liberties and their infiltration and repression of the 23 Midwest anti-
war activists!

Senator Klobuchar: 202-224-3244
Senator Franken: 202-224-5641

Background:
Under Mueller's reign, the FBI has waged a war on people in the United
States who oppose U.S. foreign policy.

In September 2010, the FBI raided the homes of anti-war and international
solidarity activists in Chicago and the Twin Cities. 14 people were given
subpoenas to appear before a grand jury. In December, 9 more activists in
Chicago were subpoenaed to the grand jury. The activists subpoenaed
include 17 women and 6 men, ranging in age from 20 to 70-somethings. Eight
are parents of babies and young children. One is a great-grandmother. They
are workers - including teachers, clerical workers, and cooks. They are
mothers, fathers and community organizers.

On May 17, 2011, in an expansion and intensification of FBI repression of
political activists, a SWAT Team, along with the FBI, smashed down the
door and rushed in with automatic weapons as Carlos Montes slept in his
home at 5:00 a.m.. Carlos is a longtime Chicano activist and member of the
Committee to Stop FBI Repression who lives in Los Angeles, CA. The raiders
ransacked his house, taking his computer, cell phones and hundreds of
documents, photos, diskettes and mementos of his political activities in
the pro-immigrant rights and Chicano civil rights movement. Hundreds of
historical documents related to the Chicano movement, dating back to the
1970s, were taken away.

According to the Justice Department's Inspector General report issued on
September 20, 2010, the FBI improperly spied on American activists
involved in First Amendment-protected activities and mischaracterized
nonviolent civil disobedience as terrorism, which improperly placed
activists on terrorist watch lists. The FBI also made false and
misleading statements to Congress and the American public to mute
criticism over its unlawful spying activities.

In its 2010 Annual Report, the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights
(IACHR), a body of the Organization of American States, noted the FBI and
grand jury repression of anti-war and international solidarity activists

"The raids and subpoenas reflect escalating hostility toward individuals
and groups working in solidarity with the Palestinian and Colombian people
and are blatantly political attacks on peaceful activists," said Azadeh
Shahshahani, Executive Vice President and International Committee co-chair
of the National Lawyers Guild. "The fact that these attacks on free
speech, freedom of association and the right to dissent have gained the
attention of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights is a welcome
development."

Honduran Attorneys Ignore Death Threats, Fight for Justice & Democracy
Friday, June 10 @ 7PM, @ the Waite House, 2529 13th Ave S, Minneapolis

Hear Attorneys Alex Navas Alvarez and Alejandro Mairena, who will visit
Milwaukee after giving testimony to the Inter-American Commission on Human
Rights in Washington D.C. about gross human rights violations in Honduras.
Their lives are in constant risk due to their work in support of democracy
in Honduras. We feel very privileged to be able to hear their voices
despite what is essentially a mainstream media blackout on the ongoing
crisis in Honduras, a close ally of the U.S. government.

Background information:
On June 28, 2009, Honduran President Manuel Zelaya was awakened by
gunfire. A coup was carried out by US-trained military officers, and Pres.
Zelaya was illegally taken to Costa Rica. Democracy in Honduras ended as a
de facto government of the rich and powerful seized control. The regime
held a sham election, backed by the U.S., in hopes of legitimizing the
leadership of the coup powers.

Forces of democracy have been subjected to police killings, arbitrary
detentions, beatings, rape and other sexual abuse of women and girls,
torture and harassment of journalists, judges and activists. Prominent
LGBTQ activists, labor organizers, campesinos and youth working with the
resistance have been assassinated. Leaders have been driven into exile.
Four judges were fired in May 2010 for criticizing the illegality of the
coup, leading two of them to go on a widely-supported hunger strike in the
nation's capital. In 2010 alone, at least seven journalists have been
murdered, and death threats against others continue, causing Reporters
without Borders to declare Honduras the most dangerous country in the
world for journalists. As it stands now, the biggest ally of the Honduran
regime is the U.S. government, which maintains an important military base
in Soto Cano housing over 500 U.S. troops.

About the speakers:
Atty. Alex Navas Alvarez is the coordinator for the Lawyers for Justice
Collective (CAJ) and a member of the Lawyers Against the Coup. He is
directly involved in the legal defense of recent victims of illegal
arrests and torture of those taking action for democracy. He is currently
directing the investigation on the situation in the Aguan region, where
the Honduran military has been widely accused of violently repressing poor
campesinos.

Atty. Alejandro Mairena is also a member of CAJ and is working on the
defense of cases related to public educators who have been targeted by
theHonduran regime as it looks to implement severe cuts and privatization.
He is a leading member of Honduras Law School's "Demand Democracy Front"
as well as Lawyers Against the Coup.

Please call on MN Science Museum to stop the coming of biggest looters of
Egyptian antiquities , is teh event: *Dr. Zahi Hawass presents... "Egypt
Past and Present" Friday, June 10, 8 p.m. at the Fitzgerald Theater*

Egyptian Minister of State for Antiquities Dr. Zahi Hawass will present
how the recent events have impacted Egypt's antiquities. He will also
share the latest scientific findings about King Tut based on the recent
forensic studies as well as provide insight into his latest discoveries in
Egypt. This one night only lecture is not to be missed!

This Sunday I visited King Tut exhibit at MN Science Museum, St. Paul. As
you approach the exhibit gate, the deep authoritative voice of Harrison
Ford demanded , "to enter the golden world of the pharoses", King Tut
exhibit gives us the chance to experience, here again the deep voice at
the gate, "the riches of royal life in Egypt more than 3,000 years ago",
it was great to see my old ancestors history been appreciated by the
millions, and the exhibit done a great job of that, to the point I almost
tolerated the repugnant Zahi Hawass "the supreme chief of Egyptian
antiquity" as his title in the video flashes, grandstanding lectures and
presentation, the exhibit lighting and the displays are masterful, the
attention giving to every details is breathtaking, which incidentally much
reverence than what Dr. Hawass himself is giving Egyptian antiquities back
home, and specially at Egyptian Museum in Cairo. Which looks like a
warehouse?

At the end of the visit, as you are leaving the exhibit, you are guided
through an IKEA style exit forcing you into their gift shop, no way out,
only to find the 3000 of experience transformed into a Mickey Mouse
experience, where the shelves fare full of King Tut paper masks, hats,
plastic rings, T-Shirts and other marketing memorabilia. No deep voice
talking to you at the gift shop, only young volunteers looking pretty and
smiling. But what almost turned me to a Mummy instantly was, as I'm trying
to avoid the commercialization of 3000 years history, I spotted at the
front of the exhibit a live side poster of Dr. Hawass the modern King Tut,
with his famous hat, standing next to a disclaimer that claims all funds
generated from the exhibit will be giving to Suzanne Mubarak Children
Museum.

Only another take confirmed what I just read, Suzanne Mubarak. Have the
folks at MN Science Museum heard of the Egyptian revolution and the Arab
Spring, haven't they realized that, Dr. Hawass and Miss Mubarak wear
arrested and indicted, allegedly accused of looting Egyptian treasure and
wealth, Miss Mubarak herself had to give up more than $25m to be let go
out of jail, she still under investigation. Dr. Hawass was sent to one
year in prison, (pending appeal now), and is accused of using his close
association with the Mubarak family to accumulate wealth and fame; he is
the Mubarak of the Egyptian antiquities, now under investigation, as FP
magazine reported - "In a separate scandal, several Egyptian publications
are claiming that Hawass used priceless artifacts in the Egyptian museum's
collection for a photo shoot to promote his fashion line. The photos,
<https://jamesweberstudio.wordpress.com/tag/zahi-hawass/>, show a model
appearing to sit in Tutankhamun's chair and leaning on frescoes".

There was a revolution in Egypt where millions of Egyptians went to
street, put their lives on the line to rid Egypt of 30 years of Mubarak
dictatorial rotten regime, and here is the MN Science Museum in alliance
with National Geographic bringing them back painful memories, ignoring the
fact that King Tut Exhibit, the golden Egyptian antiquity treasure is
brought to you by the biggest looters of Egyptian Antiquity., Dr. Hawass
and Miss Mubarak.

I sent a letter to the Science Museum PR department bringing their
attention to this colassal misjudgment, they kindly and promptly responded
and assured me they are working on changing the sign and the names.
According to Science Museum website, Dr. Hawass is coming to town to -
"present "Egypt Past and Present" on Friday, June 10, 8 p.m. at the
Fitzgerald Theater,

This is an insult to the millions of Egyptians who revolted and toppled
the Mubarak's regime, and his cronies one of wich is Dr. Hawass. We all
need a Thrir Square to topple the Mubarak of Egyptian antiquities. I call
on MN Science Museum and national Geographic to give the same attention
and respect they give to old Egypt dead Egyptians to the new Egypt and
live Egyptians.
