Bridge, signs available at St. Paul side. The bridge vigil moves to an
earlier time as our hours of daylight get shorter. Sponsored by: WAMM End

2. Corporate Media Beats the Drums of War

Sunday, November 9, 2:00 p.m. 4200 Cedar Avenue South, Minneapolis. A
special presentation by Mnar Muhawesh, Editor In Chief, Mint Press News
about the corporate media acting in the interest of the elite, not as a
government watchdog, as it drives public opinion to support war. Sponsored
by: WAMM Middle East Committee. FFI: Call 612-827-5364 or [1]Facebook.

3. Give to the Max Day Open House

Thursday, November 13, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm WAMM Office, 4200 Cedar Avenue
Suite 3, Minneapolis. Hang out in the WAMM office as we watch our progress
throughout the day. Donate to WAMM on [2]GiveMN.

Lifelong progressive activist and WAMM supporter Phil Willkie will
generously match donations made to WAMM up to $2,000 on Give to the Max Day
2014! He is donating in honor of Polly Mann, whose birthday is in November,
and to honor the many strong women in his life. In his own words:

As we honor Polly Mann and her 95th birthday and as I donate $2,000 to
match the gifts to WAMM from Polly’s other admirers, I’m also honoring and
remembering four women who were my mentors and role models. Though I met
Polly late – in 1987 – she clearly ranks with the strong women who
influenced me, the women I’ve held dear throughout the years:

· Elizabeth Heffelfinger, my maternal grandmother, a founder of
Minnesota Planned Parenthood in 1930, when that work was controversial and
radical, she moved ahead.

· Dolores Huerta, co-founder with Cesar Chavez of the United Farm
Workers, taught me organizing. She said “public relations” were a waste of
time. She taught me to get something tangible – money, volunteers, perhaps
a used car.

· Flo Kennedy, one of the eight founders of NOW, a black feminist
activist lawyer who called me “son” and fed me in her New York apartment
even while she campaigned against traditional motherhood. She knew how to
“kick a**.”

· Alpha Smaby, a state legislator and co-chair of Minnesotans for Gene
McCarthy in 1968, whom I met when she was running for a seat as citizen
representative on the Northern States Power board. The powerful were afraid
of her. At times she could be harsh, but always endearing

Polly Mann continues to this day, frankly and fearlessly, carrying the
torch for justice and peace in the feisty spirit of these brave women.
