Cantine's Island envisages two possible kinds of common work spaces, apart from the kitchen in the common house. One will be a fully equipped woodworking shop which will primarily serve the community itself, though its facilities may wel l be used to produce something that would go out of the community. The other is that members yet to join the group may want work space or studio space--a cera micist for instance--which may in turn be shared by other members of the group or by nonmembers living in the surrounding area. This is our thinking so far. T hese days our energies go towards launching construction and final designs of t he common house and individual houses, but what I'v said indicates our directio n. All the best, Lee Haring (LEHBC [at] CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU).
