Colorado Straw bale trip

I have continued to be in essentially read-only mode with this list, but
thought I'd post some information about a few straw bale slide shows that
Matts Myhrman and I will be giving over the next few weeks. This is an
adaptation of the message I posted on the straw bale mail list.

I know there are at least a few people on this list who might be interested
in straw bale construction and in seeing an introductory program.

I apologize that I don't have all the info in its most comprehensive form,
but there is contact info for each event. I continue to enjoy the cohousing
list and perhaps someday will have more time to contribute to it.

The straw bale agenda for Matts Myhrman (Out On Bale - his info resource
company with Judy Knox, his wife) and David Eisenberg (me - President,
Development Center for Appropriate Technology).

Tuesday Aug. 8 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at 7 pm. Slide show - Baler
Bizzaro or Pushing the Straw Bale Envelope. Matts & I will show some of our
more interesting and less often seen slides of straw bale construction on the
edge. Well, actually, It'll probably just be an interesting collection of
alternative and modified post and beam bale buildings and wall systems (since
this is THE way in NM), a little on vaults, domes, hybrids, low brows, fun
buildings, etc. Not the
regular introductory slide show. We're jaded and heck, is there anybody in
New Mexico who hasn't heard of straw bale construction, built one, gone to a
workshop or wall raising, written about them, or used them for their horses?
Sponsored (I think) by the Straw Bale Construction Association. Contact Rose
Morin at 505-246-2929. I'm not sure of the location.

Wednesday August 9 at Colorado Springs, Colorado. The contact person is
James Verkaik at 719-275-2394. Again, I'm not sure of location but James
knows. I think this is being done in part as an AIA continuing education
program for local architects. This is an Out On Bale/Joanne DeHavillan
Seminar so if all else fails, you may be able to get info via Joanne at
520-624-1673.
The schedule is as follows: 5-6pm, Social hour (I'm not sure Matts and I can
be "sociable" that long) 6-7pm Slide show (this is the full fledged
introductory slide show as are all the rest of the ones we'll do on this
tour) 7-7:30pm demonstration
7:30-9pm question and answer session.

Thursday and Friday Aug. 10 - 11 Matts and I will be making a straw bale
presentation (by invitation) for the Colorado Chapter of the ICBO
(International Conference of Building Officials), including a slide
show/question and answer period and a 2 hour mini-workshop with the officials
on Friday.

Monday August 14 Slide show in Moab, Utah. Contact Dave Clark @ 801-259-8127
for details.

Wednesday Aug. 16 Slide show in Flagstaff, Arizona. Contact Paul Doherty of
the Northern Arizona Sustainable Building Network for details at:
520-779-6236
or e-mail: lago [at] primenet.com

Sorry I haven't had time to gather the full info on all these events.
