First, I'd like to thank everyone, including those
opposite me on the issue, for taking the trouble to
respond:
  Mac Thompson,
  Jake Morrison,
  Joani Blank,
  Peter Starr,
  Stuart Staniford-Chen,
  Rob Sandelin,
  Bill Dean,
  David Mandel,
  Mike Mariner
  Judith Wisdom

I would also like to praise those who are now speaking
out about finding ways for lower-income folks to obtain
the benefits of cohousing.

As several posters have pointed out, I don't know Mac
personally. See mild apology below. What I was
gratified to see, however, is ANY response about such
issues.

It was mentioned that my "liberal" bias was a predictable
knee jerk. I'd like to point out that the demands that
I "civilize" my remarks, and take the discussion of
political beliefs elsewhere is rather a typical
conservative reflex also. It well serves the purpose of
squelching access as well as passion. The politico-
economic orientation of cohousing is a crucial issue which
I will continue to press as forcefully as I need to.

On the point that businesses exist "which were
thoroughly ethical, treated their employees very fairly,
produced high quality products, respected the environment,
and made good profits...", nobody said that some
capitalists can't behave, just that in concert they don't.
Are you still waiting for that mythical moral epiphany?

Supporting "Diversity", supporting "Tolerance":

Like we need more republicans ?
What about enfranchising those who need justice in
the housing market ? How do you think they feel when
they hear talk of ordering "truckloads of goods" to be
delivered to your doorstep tomorrow ?
Why do you think you don't hear much from them on this
list ?

Not the appropriate place for debating political
belief ?

Then what is ? As a Basic Need, the housing context
is certainly one which has political implications. You
want to confine it to the subject ? That's easy. Just
listen to the analysis. And forget the unfortunate "ad
hominem attack" on "the jerk".

As far as threatening to leave the list:
If you want pink fluff on the moral high ground, join
the smurf list and talk to strawberry shortcake. Life
is too god damned short.
