I love to see kids of different ages here interact/teach each other/help take care of younger ones, and I'm convinced the close-knit community makes it happen much more than it would otherwise. But kids also all want someone their own age sometimes. Don't we all? That can't always happen in a small community. It can be a great incentive to get to know other neighbors and extend certain aspects of your community beyond its narrow bounds. David in Sacramento
