Nothing in the world is addictive - not television, not
alcohol, not drugs. If the thing itself were addictive,
everyone who used it would become addicted. Not everyone who
watches TV becomes addicted to it. Not everyone who drinks
alcohol becomes addicted to it. Contrary to popular belief,
not everyone who uses drugs becomes addicted to them.

The source of the addiction is in the person who becomes
addicted, not in the object of the addiction. In some cases
that source is genetic. In others it's emotional, cognitive,
and psychological.

Attempting to eliminate addiction to television by removing
the TV is penalizing those who have no tendency to become
addicted to it. It's no different than prohibiting alcohol
because some people are alcoholics.

If we really want to reduce addictive behaviors, we'll look
within instead of trying to control the objects of addiction
for people who don't have a problem with them.

Namaste,
Michael
