I find the words such as: Defining Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Transgendered people by "sexual activity" or using such words raises issues for me. Het people - myself included often "flaunt our heterosexuality" holding hands, kissing in "inappropriate ways" in public. Separating where one is pushing one's beliefs upon others from simply being oneself in "normal" ways is not so simple - always - for me to see.
I just want to say thank you George for expressing what was on my mind as well. I was mildly offended by some of the responses to the original post. I feel mixed because I could tell the posts were well-intentioned and coming from a "liberal" perspective. But being "liberal" i.e. "what ever they do behind closed doors is ok with me as long as I don't have to see it.", while better than the outright discrimination of right wing fundamentalists is sort of a consolation prize on the way to a fully accepting nurturing diverse society.
