Cohousing-L Mailing List: No HTML postings please

I just got done reformatting and posting 7 messages to Cohousing-L that
included HTML. These messages were "rejected" ( not posted automatically)
because they included HTML (instead I was notified).  Converting them to
text and including the preamble takes me a few minutes each (2-3 ?).  
It's not a big deal but I'd prefer people learn how to post text.

That URL is to an Oct 2001 message when I started rejecting / reformatting
messages. That message explains the problem in more detail and
specifically addresses how to post text with Microsoft Outlook Express.  
That message needs to be updated but will have to do for now. Problems
with HTML dont seem to have changed much so I will continue my system of
handling them for now. Since Oct 7, 2001 I have handled 61 such messages -
about 10 per month. A new major version of Mailman (our listserv software)
is due soon.  Maybe that will allow an alternative handling HTML.

Please don't reply to this message on cohousing-L which is
for the discussion of cohousing :)  Sorry for the off topic message -
list manager's perogative...

I just re-posted a message which some users found unreadable. (I failed to
put a subject line on it - sorry) The problem message was in HTML format
which causes other problems also. Messages posted to cohousing-L in HTML
often come out poorly formated or include "garbage" (depending on how you
view them).

PLEASE DO NOT POST HTML to Cohousing-L.

Microsoft Outlook Express users, please see a note below to you
specifically.

Ironically I "approved" the problem message.  I have recently learned how
to hold messages with html for approval.  However I have not figured out
how to strip the html out of messages or how to handle them otherwise. I
will probably send HTML posters a message urging them to change their
mailer settings (see below).  Getting "approval" does introduce some delay
(typically less than 24 hours - depends on when I check in) in your
message getting posted so I urge you to figure out how to not send it.



Microsoft Outlook Express and HTML

Often messages include HTML because the poster has "HTML encoding" set in
Microsoft Outlook Express which sends messages as both text and html
format (html format is the format for the WWW).  I think Outlook Express
comes with html set.

I strongly encourage Microsoft Outlook Express users turn OFF html
encoding. I think this is done via the Tools / Options / Sending menu;
then check Plain Text (rather than Html encoding); then check "apply".
