I guess I'm ready to own up to a bias and say that sharing
a community with NRA members would not be my idea of fun.
While such people belong the human race (not a compliment
these days), I don't see that allowing people to have
different ideas and life styles necessarily mean
wishing to share a community with them.
As to gun ownership - I don't know if we have anyone with
guns in Sonora Cohousing. I hope not, and perhaps this will
come up in January, when we work on defining our values
with Tree. I'd just say that in a community where there are
kids all around, and where they get into different houses
(not always when invited), for someone to have guns lying
about can prove deadly.

Regarding smoking - we have one full-fledged smoker, and
a few semi-closeted ones... While smoke bothers me
even outdoors (I have bad allergies and multiple chemical
sensitivies)- I never felt comfortable asking someone not
to smoke outdoors. I guess I assume that my need for air
isn't any more urgent than their need to keep their addiction alive :).
What I really mean is: I know that addictions can be very hard to kick,
and don't want to make anyone's
life too difficult.
