We have wooden floors over radiant (hot water in plastic pipes) heat
everywhere.  Most units have the standard  type of wooden flooring;
at least one unit upgraded to Kahrs (factory-finished planks).
Both seem to be working fine although there is a considerable
delay from turning the heat on to noticing a rise in temperature.

One thing that was done wrong here was that the radiant floor heat
is the same in all rooms. But that's not what you need! South
facing rooms get a lot of solar heating while north facing rooms
get none. The net result is that the southern rooms are a lot
warmer than the northern rooms. If I had it to do over again,
I'd put more heat coils in the northern rooms and less in the
southern, to balance out the overall warmth.

You might also want more heat on the lower floors and less on the
upper, since heat rises anyway.
