RE: matching spoons and forks

At Highline Crossing, it took a little while, but we have matching flatware,
and 'china' (corelle). There is also stuff that doesn't match - some of the
serving ware, etc.

The corelle is good because it is lightweight. On the pantry shelves, and
lifting the dishwasher racks in and out, heavier china gets REALLY heavy.
We picked a somewhat distinctive pattern.

The same with the flatware, altho I personally don't find what we picked to
be comfortable to hold. But that's a minor issue.

After 8 years, we have 2 patterns of glasses, but they also are fairly
distinctive.

It took several years longer to get matching chairs and then tables - much
more expensive than china and flatware. Table clothes hide a multitude of
sins. ;-)

I like that the kitchenware is matching and distinctive so that if it ends
up in my home I know where it goes back to. There is kitchenware that does
tend to migrate into the community, and a small portion of it doesn't
return. The more identifiable the items are, the better. Matching makes
them identifiable, particularly if no resident in the community has that
pattern.

In the beginning, certainly mismatched stuff is fine, until you decide you
want to afford to match. And some communities might not care. The eclectic
look may work for you; it might not be a big deal in your community. (What
AM I thinking! It's Boulder!! <grin>) Just figure out your financial and
aesthetic priorities and go from there.

Any thoughts on the pros and cons of having or attempting to have
matching silverware (flatware) in the common house? Who does it, who
doesn't? Thanks for your help.
