Consensus is a tool, and one of the identifying traits of > cohousing, but by no means the only one. I think consensus is standard in cohousing but communities define it differently; some not at all. Basically the idea is to adopt procedures and solutions that everyone in the community is comfortable with or at least understands are necessary. Most have a default for backup voting that kicks in at some level, if only because mortgage lenders require it. I think the lack of response is partly because it is the end of summer. The list usually dies by the end of August to pick up again mid-September. And because consensus is a hard topic. We do it but explaining how is not so easy.
