If you use Hardee plank be sure that the architect and the builders follow the instructions for its use. We have vertical porch pillars faced with Hardee plank. The Hardee plank is placed with the boards oriented vertically. For some units, end edges of the Hardee plank boards rest on a concrete porch, and they are swelling. When I called Hardee plank about this, I was told that the material is not intended to be used in that way. Attention must also be paid to the expansion gaps between the boards. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines. Builders, and their workers, not knowing how to install newer materials, may do it the same way older materials are installed--which may be incorrectly.
