We are a non-profit development sponsor devoted to facilitating cohousing in Alberta, Canada. Currently we are in various stages of working with 3 different projects. One is an affordable project that will qualify for Federal/Provincial funding. Another is a market group who may partner with the affordable group. Both of these projects are in the "oil sands" city of Fort McMurray, Alberta, which is 5 hours north of the nearest city (Edmonton) with nothing in between....a long dead end road with about 45,000 residents and 10,000 workers living just outside the city in camps. It is so expensive here that many cannot afford to bring their families here to live and therefore feel very transient. We are also having early discussions with a group who wish to create a shared retreat type of community in the foothills of the Rockies within 1.5 hours of Calgary. Art Dutton....my hubby is the President of H.O.M.E.S. and he is American. We may look to live in the US again one day and so you never know...H.O.M.E.S. could go international....It is a self-help, consumer driven, peer supported solution to our dissatisfaction with the lack of housing choices that develop a humane environment over which we have control. Warmest regards, Maggie Dutton, Director of Work Enjoyment, H.O.M.E.S. http://www.thehomesproject.shawbiz.ca Housing Ourselves Made Easy Society, 159 Eymundson Rd. Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada.
