Participants can attend the Friday evening session only, the day-long Saturday session, or both. We are also offering an optional Sunday session for more detail on financing issues. Kicking off the weekend on Friday evening, October 3 will be a two-hour talk and slide show giving an overview of the cohousing movement in North America. Residents of Muir Commons will join us to discuss their 12 years as a community. The fee for Friday evening only is $10. On Saturday, October 4, a full-day seminar will give an extensive overview on organizing a cohousing community. Participants will learn from the lessons of other communities about realistic timelines, development options, finding sites and the keys to success. The afternoon session will focus on group process and building a effective working structure. Participants will learn how to move from the initial steps of group formation through the subsequent steps necessary for site acquisition. The day will close with a consideration of critical components to successfully move forward. The fee for the Saturday Seminar is $100 for CohoUS members/$150 for non members. On Sunday, October 5, an optional morning session is offered to focused on the intricacies of financing and cohousing development. Experienced Cohousing Developer Jim Leach will join us for this indepth discussion offering an excellent opportunity to discuss your specific questions in greater detail. The additional fee for the Sunday session is $75. Kathryn McCamant, co-author of Cohousing: A Contemporary Approach to Housing Ourselves, an architect and project manager, who has worked on dozens of cohousing communities and who is an 11-year resident at Doyle Street Cohousing in Emeryville will be the weekend's presenter.
